Rubén Alba has built an extensive career as an Asturian bagpiper, defined by strong technical mastery, a highly personal musical sensitivity, and a powerful stage presence. Winner of the prestigious Macallan Trophy in 2002 and 2006, he is regarded as one of the most prominent performers in contemporary Asturian bagpiping.
He began his musical journey at the age of 11 with the Tabladar Bagpipe Band, directed by José Manuel Tejedor, starting an artistic path that soon led him to international stages and collaborations with key figures in the Spanish music scene. His career reflects a balance between tradition and an open approach to fusion and instrumental evolution.
His musical proposal is rooted in Asturian tradition, which he reinterprets through a contemporary lens, incorporating elements of Celtic and modern folk music. All of this defines a versatile artist, capable of performing in both large-scale festivals and more intimate formats. In 2018, he released his debut album, a Celtic-folk fusion project, and he currently continues developing his latest work, Secretos sin contar, awarded in 2025 with the AMAS Prize for Best Folk Album.
