Getting around the festival

Leave your car at home! In 2013 Arriva began to offer a public transport shuttle service between the various centres of the Ortigueira Festival. The circular bus route between the car park, bus station in town and Morouzos pine forest costs just €1.

This service will be continued in 2022.

The service will operate from mid-morning until the concerts end in the early hours of the morning. The only exception is lunchtime and the live concert times on the Estrella Galicia stage.

The various activities programmed as part of the Ortigueira Festival take place at various sites. Below is a list of the principal venues:

ALAMEDA STAGE

The venue for the Festival’s major concerts is located on the seafront (marina esplanade) and measures 15 metres. Giant video screens set up at either side of the stage guarantee you won’t miss a thing.

LA BENEFICENCIA THEATRE

This theatre hosts some of the parallel activities to the musical performances. This venue, which opened in 1859 as a site for cultural events, is part of the group of convent buildings that also include the Town Hall and parish church.

STREET PERFORMANCES

The pipe bands perform every afternoon outside the Town Hall and the traditional parade through the streets takes place on Sunday. Street performers can be found at every corner, filling the streets with colour and rhythm once the major concerts have finished. Street music and entertainment form an essential part of the Ortigueira Festival.

Normally, only the central section of Morouzos Beach is used. However, it boasts a vast area of dunes backed by a pine forest with recreation areas. The entire area is protected in accordance with the criteria for the conservation of wetlands included in the Ramsar Agreement.

The beach is 2,000 metres long and has an average width of 110 metres. Occupation is average, partly due to the fact that it is some distance from the town centre.

Morouzos Beach stands out for the dark tone of its sand, as well as the moderate swell. The fact that it has been awarded a Blue Flag by the Foundation for Environmental Education is evidence of the large number of services available. The beach offers a monitoring and rescue service, safety signs and a lifeguard tower manned by qualified local authority staff.

The beach can be easily accessed on foot or by car. The routes are clearly signposted and adapted for people with reduced mobility. In addition to the services mentioned previously, Morouzos Beach also has toilets, showers, litter bins, a cleaning service, access walkways and parking for up to 100 vehicles.

INFORMATION POINTS

If you are in Ortigueira and need information, where should you go? The answer is easy. If you do not have a computer or smartphone at hand to consult this website, there are several alternative options. Firstly, you will find information panels around the town. You can also consult the leaflets which include the programme and full details of the events. If you still have questions, you should go to the Visitor Reception Centre (Ortigueira Harbour), the Tourist Information Office located at the entrance to the town (from Ferrol) or any of the information or merchandising sales points; there are three, located near the Alameda and the FEVE station.

HEALTH CENTRE

If you require medical attention, you can go to the Health Centre, which is open 24 hours a day. It is located in the town centre, next to the Civil Guard station. In the event of an emergency, you should contact the Civil Protection staff, who will be on duty throughout the event.

POST OFFICE

Why not give your friends a surprise and send them a postcard? The Post Office is located at 8, Carretera General, one of the main roads leading to the concert area.

CRAFT FAIR

It’s hard to leave Ortigueira without taking home a gift or souvenir, however small it may be…apart from the must-have Festival T-shirt that you will find at the official merchandising stalls, the Craft Fair will give you some great ideas. The stalls and street vendors line the sea promenade area, offering you the chance to purchase a wide range of artisanal products.

EATING AND DRINKING

And after all this… you’ll need to recover your strength before partying some more. You’ll find a large number of eateries in town, or in the specially designated area, also located around the sea promenade.
