MIRLO

CASTELA E LEÓN

Mirlo is a Leonese folk duo formed in 2025 by Ignacio Martínez (flutes, bagpipes, and *alboka*) and Diego Gutiérrez (guitar, vocals, harmonicas, and traditional percussion). Born from their collaboration in the group Cantares y Sones de León, the project aims to reinterpret traditional Leonese music through simple, direct, and contemporary arrangements.

Their repertoire blends instrumental and vocal melodies spanning various genres of oral tradition—from “titos, jotas, and moliñerías to tonadas and cantos de bodega” (wine cellar songs). With prior experience in groups such as Tarna, Cecina Folk, Pandetrave, and Parr, both musicians bring an artistic continuity to Mirlo shaped by the musical influences of the Atlantic Arc.

In live performance, Mirlo offers an energetic and intimate experience that fuses tradition with the present day. Vocals and guitar intertwine with flutes, whistles, bagpipes, and *alboka* to breathe new life into the Leonese repertoire, preserving its essence while making it resonate with contemporary sensibilities.
