Antía Vázquez (vocals and tambourine), Eloy Vidal (keyboard, guitar, and vocals), and Pablo Castro (percussion and bagpipes) form Alana—a musical project that blends traditional music with electronic and pop rhythms. The band’s concept is rooted in “recollidas” (field recordings), a collaborative effort involving many men and women who have generously contributed to preserving the richness of Galician music and tradition.
O xeito á cántigha is their debut album. In one of Dorothé Schubarth’s field recordings, compiled in the Cancioneiro Popular Galego, Delfina from Cerceda explains to the musicologist how to give “o xeito á cántigha” to the melodies of muiñeiras and jotas. That recording, made over 40 years ago, inspired the title and spirit of the album.
Alana is a new, diverse project with a powerful stage presence and a deep connection to tradition and dance. In their first year, 2023, they were awarded the Xuventude Crea Prize in the music category.
