Founded in 1975, the Banda de Gaitas de Ortigueira is a pioneer of the modern bagpipe movement and a cultural icon in the town. With around thirty members, including pipers, percussionists, and dancers, they perform a traditional Galician music and dance repertoire.
Since 2014, they have organized the opening session and band parade of the Festival do Mundo Celta, bringing music and tradition to the streets. They also take part in the Friday concert lineup, honoring the founding spirit of the event initiated by Xavier Garrote.
Under the direction of Rodrigo López, the band celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025 with a special program, including performances with past generations of musicians.
