Pelepau was born in the city of Vigo in 2010 and is made up of 11 percussionists, all of them teachers in traditional Galician music and dance schools and ensembles, with well-established careers in the Galician music scene.
This musical ensemble, originally from the southwest of Galicia, aims to adapt traditional and popular songs from the region using vocals and a variety of percussion instruments. Their first album, Fío e Agulla (2015), blends Galician folk music with rhythms from other cultures connected to Galician emigration, always with a touch of humor. In Na Beira, their most recent work, they continue to explore new arrangements while staying rooted in tradition.
Their project seeks to preserve and share Galician culture through an interactive show, with a dynamic stage presence and constant engagement with the audience. At the same time, it’s a versatile and diverse performance that can take the form of stage shows, street parades, or percussion workshops.
