Lúnasa was formed as a quintet in 1997 during the recording of their first studio album, a project that marked the beginning of a prolific musical journey together. From the very start, the band was acclaimed by both audiences and specialised press as one of the most exciting acts on the traditional music scene. Their debut album became a best-seller and reached the top ten of publications such as Irish Echo in the United States.

Following their first tour across American stages, Lúnasa confirmed their international reputation and was described as “Ireland’s most powerful acoustic band”

The band draws inspiration from Irish groups of the 1970s, blending wind melodies with more powerful instrumentation and pairing flutes, pipes and other traditional instruments. Lúnasa brings together some of the most virtuosic musicians in the contemporary Irish traditional music scene.
