Xurxo Fernandes began his research on traditional music when he was only 14 years old. Since then, his love for music has taken him not only around the villages of Galicia for 20 years, but also abroad to get to know the Sephardic culture of the East in places like Istanbul, Sofia, Jerusalem or Athens.
He is the creator of several projects such as Radio Cos together with Quique Peón, the collective Pandeireteiras sen Fronteiros (PAN.SEN.FRON) in which he combines the Galician tradition with the sonority of Romania, Italy or India among others, Jako el Muzikante, that brings back the atmosphere of the 1920’s cafés or Leivano!, that represents his work of collection and learning in Galicia and the Eastern Mediterranean in only one show.
In Leivano!, Xurxo introduces twelve tracks gathered from places as diverse as Coristanco, Samakov, Tel Viv or La Mezquita, making use of the Galician oral tradition with arrangements that take us to more distant landscapes.
