From Madrid, Xara arrives for the first time in Ortigueira with a proposal rooted in the traditional music of the Atlantic arc. The group, born from Madrid’s Irish sessions, is made up of four musicians with diverse backgrounds, united by a shared passion for the Galician, Irish, Scottish, and Iberian traditions.
On violin, Irene Vioque, a finalist in several editions of the Fleadh in Mullingar and the Fiddle of London. Guillermo Zumajo, flutist and whistler, combines classical training from the Royal Conservatory of Madrid with his work in projects such as Irish Treble. Víctor Álvarez, rooted in the Asturian and Galician bagpipe traditions, also specialized in traditional Irish music. Rounding out the group is Alejandro Delgado, guitarist and bouzouki player, whose sound fuses jazz, tradition, and science, thanks to his musical training and PhD in artificial intelligence applied to music.
Finalists in the Fiddle of London and selected for La Caixa’s 2025 Microconcerts series, Xara represents a new generation of Atlantic folk, with a sound full of energy, sensitivity, and shared roots.
