In the year 2000, the Ortigueira International Celtic World Festival took its first steps towards becoming a springboard for new groups with the launch of the Runa Contest.
The winning band was guaranteed a place on the programme for the next edition, sharing the main stage with the performers topping the bill. Twenty years on, Runas remains true to its principles, despite the natural evolution of a number of aspects.
Runas has provided a showcase for more than 200 Spanish and international bands, which gives a clear idea of the key role this platform plays in promoting up and coming new talent on the Celtic and folk music scenes.
